My name is Antonio Vargas and I research and teach philosophy. In this website I present my research, offer courses and update a blog about my life in Jerusalem. To know more, read below and follow me on Twitter or Instragram.

Short Bio

I currently live in Jerusalem, where I am a Fellow at the Martin Buber Society of Fellows in the Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I came here after concluding my masters and doctorate at the Humboldt-University in Berlin and studying philosophy as an undergraduate at the University of Brasília. A diplomat’s child I have been a nomad most of my life, having spent time in the United States and Japan growing up. I plan to end my nomadic existence and return to Brasilia and to Brazil in September 2021. To learn more about my life in Jerusalem, follow the blog (in Portuguese) or the Instagram account.

Research Interests

My research til now has concentrated on Neoplatonism, a school from the late ancient period with great historical influence and that developed the basic tools for all furture attempts to fulfill the Platonic dream of grounding human knolwedge in a certain grasp of the first principle. However, I also have interests in Brazilian philosophy (in particular the polytheist Vicente Ferreira da Silva), Classical German philosophy from Kant to Schelling, phenomenology, the political philosophy of the conservative revolution (in particular, Hans Blüher e Othmar Spann), and in Christian Platonism, amongst other subjects.
